Corn & Calluses

Heloma Dorum - Molle  I  Hyperkeratosis

What are corns, calluses?

Corns and calluses are thick, hardened layers of skin on specific areas of the foot - what we call chronic pressure points. The difference between corns and calluses is the size of the area where the pressure is while walking or standing on our feet. When the pressure concentrates on a small area of the foot, especially on the side, top of the toes or on the ball area of the sole, a corn develops. In other cases, a callus develops.

How can we at Kovacs & Partners help you with these conditions?

Following an examination of your feet, we will discuss the treatment options you can choose from, provide you with information about your condition and inform you of simple steps which can help you to prevent the problem recurring.

In most cases, both corns and calluses are simple and painless to treat. A single sterile blade is used to eliminate the hard skin and enucleate the painful corn, promptly providing you with relief and comfort.

For more persistent corns and calluses, further intervention may be required.

If the hard skin and corns are caused by increased pressure in certain areas and/or compromised foot biomechanics, I will advise that you have custom orthotics made and refer you to a highly qualified professional for a further assessment. A custom-made insole will help you to improve your foot function and reduce the build-up of calluses and corns in the future, keeping you comfortable for longer so you can get back on your feet and live the mobile and healthy life you deserve.
