Japanese Nail Treatment

Nowadays, many people are returning to natural treatments and a simple, clean look. Relatively short and healthy nails can emphasise their natural beauty and shape. The Japanese wax treatment can be an attractive solution to achieve this look.

Finishing your manicure with a Japanese treatment results in a completely smooth nail plate that reflects more light, giving a shiny effect. Talcum powder combined with wax paste forms a harder, more resistant top layer on the nail plate, which also makes the nail stronger.

It must be highlighted that this treatment does not work when the natural nail plate is highly brittle or fragile. In this case, nail strengthening with gel can be a more appropriate solution.

Where does the technique comes from?

The technique, unsurprisingly, originates in Japan. Centuries ago, the condition of one's nails indicated social rank and financial status. Healthy and well-groomed, shiny nails were the privilege of those who did not do physical work and were wealthy, so they could grow their nails to any length. That was a time when polishing of the nails was explicitly forbidden for members of the lower social classes.

What products are used for the process and how are they applied?

Only natural materials are used for a Japanese wax treatment. A beeswax paste is applied to the top layer of the nail plate using a deerskin tool. After that, the wax is fixed with talcum powder, creating a shiny, flexible, but at the same time, resistant top layer on the surface of the nail. Beeswax paste contains vitamins A, E, B5, creatine, bee pollen and silica.

What is the benefit of this Japanese wax treatment?

As the Japanese wax layer is also water-repellent, the nail plate will not soften during handwashing or housework, not even after a shower or a long bath. This will prevent the nails from tearing, cracking or breaking, so they will become more resistant. The top wax-talcum layer retains its shine for 7-14 days depending on the individual daily routine and the individual's nails.

What should I expect during this nail care treatment?

  • The treatment starts with a manicure: nail shortening, smoothing and correcting the cuticle area, and cleaning the nail groove (sulcus).
  • The natural beeswax is applied to the top surface layer of the nail plate with a special tool and semicircular movements using smooth and gentle pressure.
  • The talcum powder is applied. It adheres to the wax and polishes the surface at the same time.
  • The treatment is finished with skin moisturizing for healthy, soft, hydrated skin.
