My name is Istvan Kovacs and I am a qualified and fully insured Foot Health Professional with 12 years' practical experience, a BSc in economics, a Member of the Open College of Foot Health Professionals (MCFHP) and a Member of the Association of Foot Health Practitioners (MAFHP).

My aim is to preserve the health and beauty of my patients’ skin and nails with my holistic approach. This means not just the feet but the whole body must be observed and assessed, thus leading us to find solutions for a wide range of problems.

Sport, work, ageing, some medical conditions such as diabetes and daily life can cause problems with our feet. But, as we all know, healthy feet are a must for a mobile, fit and active life.

I use my 12 years' work experience and professional knowledge as a tool to help solve different problems such as lesions, blisters, corns, hard skin or ingrown toenails thus helping you to live a pain-free life and focus on the things that bring you joy and happiness.

With your cooperation, we will be able to get rid of your fungal nail infection or athlete's foot to give you back your self-confidence and comfort.

I provide my treatments at Ringwood Health Clinic. However, if you are unable to visit me, I can treat you in the comfort of your own home. I cover the Salisbury, Ringwood, Ferndown, Wimborne, Bournemouth, Poole, Southampton, Romsey and Winchester areas for home visits.

What is the difference between a Podiatrist and a Registered Foot Health Practitioner?

Although it’s important that individuals correctly take care of their feet to prevent the onset of common foot health conditions, it can be confusing trying to determine which type of foot care specialist they need to make an appointment with – especially with each professional providing different services.
One of the most common questions our team gets asked is about the difference between a Podiatrist and a Registered Foot Health Practitioner. Although both work with feet, their job roles and the foot care services they provide differ. Choosing whether to visit a Podiatrist or Foot Health Practitioner should depend on your requirements.

What is a Registered Foot Health Practitioner?

A Registered and qualified Foot Health Practitioner is a professional who is qualified to carry out routine foot care treatments, which can be complemented with hand care services. They carry out general check-ups on feet and hands:

  • Shortening and filing toenails and fingernails – manicure / pedicure
  • Treating corns, calluses and cracked heals
  • Preventing and treating fungal nail infections and or athlete's foot
  • Preventing and treating sweaty feet or bacterial infections on skin
  • Treating verrucas
  • Treating ingrown toenails at different stages from slight tenderness to painful / infected toenails
  • Nail strengthening after minor or major nail damage
  • Nail prothesis – toenail or fingernail reconstruction – Wilde-Pedique / Arkada system / Gehwol system
  • Providing silicone or Otoform supporters in case of extreme pressure points
  • Educating patients about nail and skin treatments at home, appropriate skin and nail care products  and footwear needed to prevent further problems

Registered Foot Health Practitioners also help high-risk foot patients.

  • They provide foot care services to individuals with diabetes or cardiovascular disorders, assessing their feet for any changes in condition, ensuring that ulcers don’t develop and by making sure their toenails are correctly cut.
  • For those with serious health issues, it is highly recommended that they be regularly assessed and treated by a Foot Health Professional.
  • After a foot ulcer successfully heals, it is crucial that it be checked from time to time by a professional in order to prevent its recurrence.

What is a Podiatrist?

A Podiatrist specialises in the study, diagnosis and treatment of long-term foot, ankle and lower leg conditions.  They aim to prevent and correct deformities of the feet and lower legs by using orthotics and are able to offer advice on the correct style of footwear for your feet.

Many individuals visit a Podiatrist if they are suffering from problems with ligaments, tendons and bones or if they are experiencing constant pain in their feet or lower legs.
